Problem #1) Came in and bought a day-pass, got charged twice, took thirty minutes to resolve. No big deal, but still worth noting. Had I not caught it, I would have been out $10. Oh, and the staff initially told me I was wrong, despite bringing my bank account information up on my phone.
Problem #2) When I'm in town I used to make it a point to come here to work out. I've been a regular patron before, and still visit when I'm off from school. This time, I came in on a Saturday, and bought a day-pass. Unfortunately, due to "liability purposes," I was only allowed to stay until 1pm (when the gym was set to close.) I understand this, no big deal. When I get out onto the gym floor, there is a SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD running around. Does not appear to be watched very closely, as he was kinda wandering around aimlessly. I changed my whole workout, as I did not want to be lifting near a young child, and left early. When I asked to speak with a manager, there was not one present. I informed the staff, and got a "sorry, we told them not to." I fail to understand why it is imperative that I be out of the gym at 1pm (despite being a previous regular with an expired key-fob) as a 23 year old man, while a child can be left to wander the floor without staff thinking to check or monitor the situation. I was under the impression that young children were not allowed in the building at all to begin with. The kid was even occasionally lifting weights.
Horrible customer service! I was extremely disappointed with how I was treated. I had 3 months remaining with my membership and I brought in a document stating I'm moving out of the country and was denied. I was told two different things. I called to confirm the proper information needed to cancel my membership because I was told I could cancel if it was a far away move. The owner came out being extremely rude basically thinking I'm not telling the truth. I even had a drivers license from Another country to prove it and he told me I also needed a bank account from there as well. I paid my balance in full; but it truly was very disappointing that I was told different things for cancellation. Do not sign a contract with power house gym in LAKE ORION. I do not recommend this gym to anyone. They have a third party financing company collect their payments and no one tells you any accurate information. Be aware of what you are signing for $30 per month. Extremely unprofessional operation!
I'll be coming in, finding a manager, then likely changing gyms. I'm not sure what happened over the nine months I was at my grad program, but this gym has clearly lost some of it's quality. Debating whether or not I should inform their corporate offices, as I work with children, and seeing a child wander the floor made me exceptionally uncomfortable.
Best gym in LO/Oxford period. Group classes tailored to different fitness levels and individual training offered. They also offer spin classes almost every day and piloxing. The equipment is always clean and in working order. It's a family owned and operated business by people who are committed to the community.
